A group of visually impaired children visited the allotments and enjoyed learning how many different vegetables, fruit and flowers grow.

They had the chance to pod peas, help dig up potatoes and pick courgettes. They watched bees finding nectar and held a ladybird and enjoyed smelling lots of different scents including lavender, sweetpeas,French marigolds and blackcurrants.

The pond was a great hit with all the children and some managed to spot the fish.

The tour was concluded in the hall where they made a bug hotel followed by some refreshments . The Chocolate and Beetroot muffins, Blackcurrant Jelly tarts and Strawberries served with ice cream were soon eaten and the blackcurrant cordial and lemonade went down well.

The children then had the chance to smell a selection of herbs and pot up a sunflower which they took home along with a bunch of lavender and some sweets.

It was a very enjoyable and rewarding afternoon and the feedback from the staff from the Stockport Sensory Support department was that both the children and staff had had a really lovely time.
